Carrus Delta Develops a New-Generation All-Electric Coach with Coresbond

Carrus Delta developed an entirely new electric coach for the market together with Coresbond. The collaboration was characterized by a realistic approach, straightforward communication and the ability to adapt demanding development work to the realities of production. The project deepened both parties’ expertise and laid the foundation for a practical, manufacturable and cost-efficient end product.

Developing an Electric Coach Called for a New Kind of Partnership

In 2025, Carrus Delta made the strategic decision to develop a new-generation coach designed around an all-electric chassis. This was not simply an update to an existing model; the goal was to create an entirely new product.

For development work of this scale, Carrus Delta needed a partner with an understanding of both vehicle development and production, as well as the ability to work closely with its product development team. The partner also needed to provide comprehensive product development support and understand the operating environment of a manufacturer specializing in custom coach bodies.

Coresbond joined the project in this role to support Carrus Delta’s development work.

A Practical and Realistic Approach

The project was a major undertaking for Carrus Delta and introduced something new to the market. It required careful planning and a scope suited to the company’s operations. The development work needed to meet high quality standards while also being adapted to the needs and production methods of a coach body manufacturer.

Coresbond was selected as the partner because of its expertise and capabilities. From Carrus Delta’s perspective, the decisive factor was Coresbond’s approach: the project was handled realistically and pragmatically.

Straightforward and Smooth Communication

The collaboration between Carrus Delta and Coresbond began with joint project meetings. The project then progressed quickly because all parties had a shared and up-to-date view of the situation at all times. Coresbond’s project team became an integral part of the wider team, and success was built on continuous and open communication.

“Communication has been smooth throughout the project. Both sides have been able to get in touch whenever needed, and communication has never been overly formal. We could simply call or send a message via WhatsApp, Teams or email.” – Harri Varjonen, Carrus Delta Oy

Learning Throughout the Project

Because the electric coach was a new product for Carrus Delta and also represented a new solution for the wider market, there was no previous experience to draw on. The plans were refined and updated as the project progressed, and the lessons learned were applied directly by the product development team.

The team was also able to carry out development work that had not originally been included in the project scope. Manufacturability, structural solutions and cost implications were considered as a whole rather than as isolated details.

“From the outset, it was clear that the project would take smooth production into account. We introduced numerous improvements to make the product easier to manufacture and assemble.” – Kimmo Nurminen, Coresbond

Customer Needs as the Guiding Principle

The collaboration placed particular emphasis on understanding the customer’s needs and adapting solutions to the actual operating environment. The development work focused not only on technical solutions, but also on how those solutions would perform in production, maintenance and throughout the product lifecycle.

“Trust is built between people. At the end of the day, this is people working with people, and when the people involved are both good at what they do and easy to work with, collaboration runs smoothly and you want it to continue.” – Harri Varjonen, Carrus Delta Oy

Coresbond as a Vehicle Development Partner

Carrus Delta gained a great deal of knowledge during the project about project management and vehicle development as a whole. In turn, Coresbond deepened its understanding of coach structures and practical manufacturing.

Coresbond’s vehicle expertise was particularly strong in the field of commercial vehicles. Electrical systems, mechanical engineering, strength calculations and documentation formed an effective whole that also supports spare parts operations.

“If your company manufactures road vehicles, Coresbond is certainly a strong partner. Their vehicle expertise has been evident to us, and they offer broad capabilities in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and strength calculations.” – Harri Varjonen, Carrus Delta Oy
