Occupational safety at Millog improved when Coresbond carried out a comprehensive machinery risk assessment and implemented concrete safety improvements.
Safety in the workplace is one of the cornerstones of Millog’s culture. The company has been running a long-term occupational safety development project aimed at identifying concrete ways to make its operations safer.
Millog employees work with a wide range of systems and work processes that involve a risk of injury. For this reason, Millog selected Coresbond as its partner for assessing the risks associated with its machinery.
The extensive project began in autumn 2021, lasted more than two years and covered machinery at 18 Millog sites. Johanna Syrjämäki, Coresbond’s Product Safety and Compliance Specialist, assessed a total of 650 machines. Some were inspected on site, while others were assessed using photographs.
Most of the equipment consisted of machine tools, including lathes, drill presses, milling machines and grinding machines.
The number of sites and machines made the project particularly demanding. Much of the machinery was also relatively old. According to Syrjämäki, the key was to find a practical implementation method that would address the relevant requirements without allowing the scope of the project to become unmanageable.
Approximately two hours were ultimately spent on each machine. The work included recommendations for safeguarding measures. Coresbond also supplied and installed appropriate guards and starters equipped with emergency-stop buttons.
Rami Harmaala, who is responsible for Millog’s strategic partnership with the Finnish Defence Forces, says Millog has been pleased with Coresbond’s work and its contribution to improving safety.
According to Harmaala, one of the greatest benefits of the partnership was that the people involved got to know one another well as the project progressed. This made the work smoother and more efficient. He recommends Coresbond to companies seeking to develop occupational safety and improve the safety of their machinery and equipment.

The project significantly improved occupational safety at Millog, and the collaboration with Coresbond played a central role in this development. Millog has encouraged its entire personnel to submit safety observations and improvement proposals. In 2023, more than 4,700 were submitted. This level of active participation has been instrumental in creating a strong safety culture.
